The Other takes centre stage at this year’s M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival, as we look to Art to “disturb the comfortable, and comfort the disturbed” (Cesar A Cruz).
The Other affirms the simple truth evident in every never-repeated sunrise that greets you each morning, each snow flake that you have the privilege to peer into, each unique stripe of every zebra - that we are all created to be different, and that we should be able to safely celebrate such differences despite what society relentlessly expect us to be.
This year, we are privileged to have young actors from the Down Syndrome Association Singapore share the stories of young refugees, allowing us to explore what many of our fellow humans are experiencing in one of the greatest humanitarian crisis the world has ever encountered. At the same time, we also explore issues that confront us every day in sunny Singapore.
As the Festival grows in providing a platform-opportunity for youths to stage and perform professional theatrical productions, we are delighted to inaugurate the M1 Theatre Ninja Programme. Under the direct guidance of professional theatre practitioners, we hope that this initiative will be a stepping stone in nurturing and engaging young theatre talents to hone their skills in telling the stories that need to be told.
We hope that the various performances brought to you by the M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival 2017 will fill you, and give you a new appetite for the precious Other.
